Twitter is set to compel all TweetDeck users to switch to the “new” version in response to ongoing issues with the legacy interface. Despite the “new” version being in preview for nearly two years, recent changes have caused the legacy app to break, leading Twitter to migrate all users to the updated experience.
According to Twitter employees, the old interface of TweetDeck has become largely unusable for many users, with columns stuck on a perpetual “Loading…” message. While these issues coincided with Twitter implementing rate limits on tweets, the employees clarify that the problems are unrelated to rate limits. Instead, the removal of legacy APIs by Twitter to prevent data scraping is identified as the underlying cause.
The process of enforcing the switch to the new TweetDeck will commence this week, a Twitter employee revealed. However, users have expressed concerns and resistance, urging Twitter not to go through with the transition. The previous experience with the TweetDeck Preview in 2021 received mixed reviews, and there have been no recent updates or improvements communicated by Twitter’s TweetDeck account since August.
As Twitter moves forward with the mandatory transition, users await the outcome and hope that the new version of TweetDeck addresses the existing issues and delivers a more satisfactory experience.
