Snapchat announced a significant milestone as its Snapchat+ subscription service has reached 4 million paid subscribers within its first year of launch. The company also unveiled two upcoming features that will be available to subscribers in the near future.
The first feature, “Expressive Chat Messages,” enables users to send messages in larger font sizes, adding a touch of creativity and emphasis to their conversations. The second feature, “Custom Chat Colors,” empowers users to choose the color in which their name appears during chats. By default, Snapchat displays names in red, but subscribers will soon have the option to personalize the hue to their liking.
Snapchat+ has demonstrated steady growth since its introduction. In April, the subscription service celebrated 3 million paid users. It reached the milestone of 1 million subscribers in August 2022, followed by 2 million subscribers in February of this year.
Despite this notable achievement, the current number of subscribers still represents a relatively small fraction of Snapchat’s vast user base, which boasts 375 million daily active users.
Since its launch, Snapchat+ has introduced several noteworthy features. One of them is the AI-powered chatbot named “My AI,” initially exclusive to subscribers. However, the company later made the chatbot available to all users. Exclusive perks related to My AI were then introduced for Snapchat+ subscribers, including a new generative AI feature that allows them to send Snaps and receive generative responses from the in-app chatbot.
For $3.99 per month, Snapchat+ offers subscribers access to experimental and pre-release features, customizable app themes, unique app icons, the ability to prioritize their No. 1 BFF, and more. The subscription service is currently available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
