Apple Studio Display and Pro Display XDR have top-notch specifications, which can meet the needs of designers and artists for high-resolution

Samsung releases ViewFinity S9, a high-end display that looks like an Apple Display

The Apple Studio Display and Pro Display XDR have top-notch specifications, which can meet the needs of designers and artists for high-resolution and accurate color rendering, but the price is so high that ordinary consumers dare not buy them easily. At CES 2023, Samsung and Dell launched high-spec 5K and 6K displays respectively, which are expected to be favored by MacBook users.

Many major display manufacturers target MacBook users, launching external displays with USB-C ports, high-power charging, and an emphasis on appearance design, but often only have traditional 4K panels and pixel densities lower than Apple’s standards. If you’re shopping for these monitors, you’ll have to compromise on lower specs.

LG cooperated with Apple in 2016 to produce a series of LG UltraFine displays comparable to the MacBook Pro Retina screen, including 22-inch and 24-inch 4K displays, and a 27-inch 5K display, but this series has poor quality and is not durable enough, high prices and other issues.

As CES 2023 kicks off, Samsung and Dell have each launched new monitors that appeal to MacBook users.

Samsung ViewFinity S9 is a 27-inch 5K display, comparable to Apple Studio Display, with a resolution of 5120×2880 and excellent brightness and color performance. It has a built-in webcam, microphone, and speakers. The laptop can be connected to the display externally via Thunderbolt 4. ViewFinity S9 can be said to imitate the design of Studio Display, but Samsung provides more features, such as a remote control, built-in smart TV software, and streaming audio and video services after work.

Dell UltraSharp 32 is currently known as the first 32-inch 6K display that can compete with Pro Display XDR. Although it does not support HDR local dimming display technology, the display body integrates speakers, microphones, and a powerful 4K network camera. These are features that the Pro Display XDR does not have.

The UltraSharp 32 can also be said to be a larger Studio Display, with a full set of ports, including 2 Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1, Ethernet, and 4 USB-A.

Samsung and Dell haven’t announced suggested prices for the new monitors, but they’re likely to be lower than the Studio Display and Pro Display XDR, and will indeed appeal to MacBook owners. If you’re considering an external monitor for your MacBook, you’ll have more options this year.
