One of the interesting technological innovations in the iPhone 14 series is the possibility of satellite communication. It was clear that immediately after Apple, the Android manufacturers would also offer a similar option, the only question was how long it would take. This week it seems that we got an answer and it is about to arrive already in the Galaxy S23 series that Samsung is going to announce at the beginning of next year.

According to estimates, Samsung contacted the satellite company Iridium Communication in order to use its services. The company has 66 communication satellites in low-flight orbit which Samsung wants to connect with the Galaxy S23 series. Samsung wants to offer a slightly different service than Apple offers to its customers. At Apple, the satellite service is intended only for emergencies and for the transmission of location. Samsung wants to expand the use of the satellite network and offer the option of sending text messages and low-resolution images. According to reports, the company has overcome all technical hurdles to embed a new RF modem capable of communicating with satellites into a smartphone. Estimates say that we will get the technological innovation already in the Galaxy S23 series that is going to be announced at the beginning of next year.

It must be noted that satellite communication in Android smartphones will not be first and exclusive to Samsung. Huawei has already done this in the latest Mate 50 series. Huawei cooperates with Beidou satellites in order to enable text messages to be sent over the satellite network.

Apple launched the new service at no additional cost to the user, and it is not yet known whether the satellite service will cost Samsung money.
