MediaTek released the new Xunkun Kompanio series products for Chromebooks, Kompanio 520 and Kompanio 528, which have excellent computing performance, optimized battery life, and seamless networking functions to create a smooth experience for entry-level users. Play cloud games, play videos online, use Google Play App, and enjoy all-day battery life. Chromebook products powered by the two Kompanio chips will be available in the first quarter of 2023.
Adam King, general manager of MediaTek’s Client Computing Division, said that high energy efficiency, high performance, and stable network connection are the core of user experience, which is where the advantages of MediaTek’s Kompanio chips lie. As the world’s largest chip supplier for Arm-based Chromebooks, MediaTek offers a complete selection of price points, bringing the latest artificial intelligence, networking, display, and imaging to the public.
The Kompanio 520 and Kompanio 528 are powered by an 8-core CPU with two powerful Arm Cortex-A76 cores and an upgraded dual-core GPU for smooth, responsive performance. The Kompanio 520’s Arm Cortex-A76 clocks up to 2GHz, and the Kompanio 528’s Arm Cortex-A76 clocks up to 2.2GHz. The battery life of the two chips is also optimized, and users can enjoy long battery life. The powerful 8-core CPU combined with high-efficiency memory selection provides users with excellent data transfer speeds, can be turned on within seconds and can handle many tasks with ease at the same time. Coupled with the MediaTek Filogic Wi-Fi 6 solution, it can optimize the networking experience of video streaming and cloud gaming.
The two Kompanio chips have upgraded image processors that support 32MP cameras to capture more image details. In addition, the MediaTek hardware imaging engine allows the two chips to optimize the quality of photos and videos, even in low-light conditions. The upgraded multimedia engine includes VP9 decoding and H.265 encoding, which doubles the speed. At the same time, it is equipped with an independent HiFi-5 DSP to support ultra-low power audio and microphone processing. The Kompanio chip also supports 60fps Full HD video recording, unlocking a smooth video conferencing experience.
Both Kompanio 520 and Kompanio 528 support Full HD+ display, users can connect an external Full HD monitor, and the resolution is twice as high as that of the previous generation chip. Users can use dual monitors to improve work efficiency, such as connecting to a smart TV to play when watching a movie, or sharing teaching materials through projection.
