Google Play will open Spotify in-app payment

Google announced on the 10th of this month that Spotify, a streaming music service provider, can directly charge Android users without going through Google Play.

Spotify is Google’s first User Choice Billing partner, allowing Android users to make purchases with their preferred payment method. User-selected billing is an alternative billing method for in-app purchases that costs less.

Users can pay Spotify directly, and Google will only charge 4% less than what it normally charges. Spotify and other developers with user-chosen billing systems still pay Google a cut of in-app sales and purchases, albeit at a reduced rate. Google usually charges 15% to 30% commission on in-app purchases, similar to Apple.
