Microsoft announced today the launch of the new version of the Edge browser, version 111, which brings with it the sidebar supported by the artificial intelligence version of the Bing engine, a feature that was available in the beta version of the application. In addition, the update introduces a number of improvements and new features.
One of the most important features of the Edge browser is Edge Copilot, which provides the user with new AI-powered capabilities right in the sidebar. The feature provides the ability to search in the Bing engine supported by the ChatGPT bot, in addition to the presence of a special tab to assist the user in writing texts.
The tab provides a choice between writing general texts, emails, and blog posts. The desired tone of the text can be chosen from among several options such as: professional, informal, fun, and funny, in addition to the ability to choose the length of the text between short, medium, and long.
The new version of the browser supports the ability to automatically hide the sidebar, as the bar automatically disappears when not in use so that it can be reopened only when needed. Microsoft says this helps the user improve their productivity and make better use of screen space while maintaining quick access to AI features when needed.
The company said it provided system administrators with options to set up or disable Edge Copilot on employee computers. Administrators can disable the sidebar completely or limit the options that the employee can access. This step comes after some companies prevented their employees from using artificial intelligence bots on work devices for fear of sending sensitive information related to the company’s work.
Finally, the update includes a set of security improvements for the browser version on Mac and Linux systems, in addition to improving browser support for devices running ARM64 processors.
