The new chatbot, which relies on artificial intelligence, called ChatGPT, has sparked widespread controversy during the past few days because of the powerful capabilities it offers in conversations with users, as it outperforms all chatbots that have appeared so far in addressing Natural language processing.

The ChatGPT bot answers your questions and assists you with many tasks; Such as writing emails, articles, and code. It also helps identify the problem in the code that you have already written. In addition, it presents creative ideas and responds in many languages, including Arabic.

The ChatGPT bot differs from all the available interactive chatbots in that it talks with you as if you were talking to another person, admits its mistakes, and corrects your wrong assumptions.

What is a ChatGPT bot?

On November 30, 2022, the company OpenAI launched the chatbot ChatGPT to test how it responds to requests in a conversational manner, and within less than a week, specifically on December 5 of this year; Sam Altman, the co-founder of OpenAI, announced that the number of ChatGPT beta users has reached one million users.

If the name OpenAI sounds familiar to you, it is because it has previously launched DALL-E-2, an AI model capable of converting text into images, and Whisper, an automatic speech recognition system.

OpenAI has developed ChatGPT chatbot using the large language model (GPT-3.5) it has been developing for years for language prediction, which can generate text that is indistinguishable from the human text in many cases.

To fine-tune ChatGPT answers and make them feel as natural as human conversations, the engineers used a machine learning technique, Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF), a technology the company had previously developed to improve upon (reinforcement learning) models. RL, rather than letting the model randomly explore its environment and procedures, RLHF uses feedback from human moderators to point the model in the right direction.

So the initial development involved AI trainers providing ChatGPT with conversations in which they played both the user role and the AI helper role.

How do you use ChatGPT?

Note: The ChatGPT bot is not available in the Middle East yet, but you can register for it via the (VPN) service.

You will need an OpenAI account to use ChatGPT so if you do not have an account, you will have to register. You can easily register using a Google or Microsoft account, or any email account by following these steps:

  • Go to the OpenAI ChatGPT website via this link, scroll down and click on Try ChatGPT.

  • If you do not already have an OpenAI account, click on the Sign-up option, then follow the instructions to create the account.

  • You will then need to enter a phone number, But keep in mind that you cannot use a virtual phone number (VoIP) to register with OpenAI. You will then receive a confirmation number in a message or via WhatsApp as per your choice, which you will enter on the registration page to complete the setup.
  • Once logged into ChatGPT; You will find a message box at the bottom of the screen like any chat service, all you have to do is start asking any question you want to be answered, and you can reply to it to continue the conversation, as the ChatGPT bot is able to remember the conversation it has with you.

What kind of questions can you ask on ChatGPT?

You can ask ChatGPT to answer any question although sometimes you may not get an answer, because it rejects some inappropriate requests; Such as: how to bully or how to rob a house, etc. He also suggests some areas that he can talk to you about, such as: explaining physics, solving mathematical equations, asking for new ideas for a birthday party, or helping you write code.

There are those who asked him to write a poem and write articles on various topics, as it appeared to him with experience a lot of uses, as there is one doctor who said that he used it to persuade a health insurance company to pay the costs of a patient.

And because of its ability to answer any question, some people have come to say that it will shake the throne of Google, as it will become the strongest competitor to the Google search engine.

But many scientists said the reality is far from that, as ChatGPT responses can sometimes be inaccurate or inappropriate. Although it is designed to reject inappropriate requests and improve its performance through the feedback it gets, ChatGPT ( OpenAI itself warns users that ChatGPT may sometimes provide wrong answers or biased content.

Is ChatGPT bot free?

Yes, at least for now, OpenAI has made the ChatGPT bot freely available to anyone who wants to log in to use it to collect as many comments as possible and improve its performance. Because it is in the research and development stage, the company has shared some useful conversations with ChatGPT via its website to prove its capabilities.

But OpenAI CEO Sam Eltman warned in a Twitter response that the company would have to charge him at some point, which the company did in its previous tools.

The company has apparently found some customers who want to buy ChatGPT already, as sources familiar with OpenAI’s recent offering to investors said the company expects $200 million in revenue in 2023 and $1 billion by 2024.

Does ChatGPT always give correct answers?

The ChatGPT bot stands out for its ability to proceed with a conversation naturally, and to reject inappropriate requests such as those posted through the Open AI website; One user asked, “How can I bully another person?”

ChatGPI replied: “It is never okay to bully someone.”

It continued, “Bullying is a serious problem that can have harmful effects on both the person who is being bullied and the person who is doing it. So instead of trying to bully someone, it is important to treat others with kindness and respect.”

But as mentioned earlier, the company Open AI itself warned that ChatGPT can give you wrong answers, as its answers can seem reliable but are wrong.

So StackOverflow banned developers from posting ChatGPT answers across the site, with the site’s admins telling the programmers in a post: “Since the average rate of getting correct answers from ChatGPT is very low, publishing its answers across the site would greatly harm the site and the users who ask or search.” for correct answers.

As Mike Krause, director of data science at artificial intelligence company Beyond Limits, said, “If you ask ChatGPT a structured question with the goal of giving you the right answer, you might get a good answer that looks like it came from a Harvard professor, but if you focus If you check how reliable it is, you will find it just rubbish.”

Can ChatGPT be used instead of Google?

Currently of course not; But the answer may differ depending on how the ChatGPT robot develops in the future, however, I do not think that Google will leave its search engine as it is currently, but rather we are expected to witness many developments in it during the coming period.

But let’s understand together what is the difference between a ChatGPT bot and a Google search engine today?

If you ask the same question to the ChatGPT bot and the Google search engine, the bot will give you an immediate answer, which is some raw text without any links, or what is known as (Citation website), which are not links, but links to sites that you can read and quote from as Google does.

The Google search engine provides you with multiple quick results based on the keywords you are searching for, this means that you enter a keyword and then Google searches the Internet for web pages that contain this word, then it shows you a list of the most relevant results.

So the ChatGPT bot does not have the ability to search the Internet for information but rather uses the information it learned from the training data to provide an answer, leaving room for error.

Google has also built similar large natural language models like LaMDA that it could use in new products soon, uses artificial intelligence extensively in search, and is constantly developing search algorithms to combat misleading or spam content.

So Google Search wins so far, because it is very fast, and is able to provide very detailed and accurate information, including links, images, videos, and (website citement), while ChatGPT sometimes only provides text information that mimics the way humans respond, but often You need to make some adjustments to these results before using them, and validating their validity takes more effort.

In addition to all of the above, making a change in user behavior is a major obstacle for ChatGPT to become an alternative to the Google search engine easily, as many Internet users use the Google search engine as a habit.
