Today, Tuesday, Apple began launching the latest version, which bears the number 16.2 of the iOS operating system, which brings a number of new and improved features for iPhone users.
iPhone 14 Pro owners will benefit from the improved settings for the always-on screen feature, which allows users to turn off the background and notifications if they are distracting.
Other new features include end-to-end encryption in the iCloud cloud storage service, and karaoke mode from Apple Music Sing, among other features.
In iOS 16.2, the end-to-end encryption feature for iCloud is called Advanced Data Protection, and it protects most of the data in iCloud with end-to-end encryption.
Now, protection includes 23 “data classes,” up from 14, and they include device backups, message backups, iCloud Drive, Notes, Photos, Reminders, Safari bookmarks, Siri Shortcuts, and more. Voice Memos, and Wallet Passes.
With regard to iPad tablets, version 16.2 of the iPadOS system adds support for external screens in the Stage Manager feature and includes the new FreeFrom application, where users can take notes and share files on one board.
This whiteboard-like app also works with FaceTime, so it’s ideal for small teams that want to communicate and track notes and changes in meetings.
Finally, iOS 16.2 and iPadOS 16.2 include the revamped architecture for the smart home platform, HomeKit, that Apple originally planned to release with iOS 16.
The structural improvements are supposed to improve performance, and they come after Apple started supporting the smart home standard, Matter, in iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1.
The update can be downloaded by going to Settings, then clicking on the General option, then clicking on Software Update, then clicking on Download and Install, then following the instructions on the screen.
