Rather than trying another update before the holiday season, it’s clear that new Macs will be delayed a few months, coinciding with the launch of the new update for macOS: macOS Ventura 13.3, in February or early March.
Gorman had said in late September that he believed the new Macs would be launched during 2022, and insisted on this on October 15, saying that the Mac launch would be in November. Then in his October 23 newsletter, he was still insisting that a Mac could be released in November.
In his newsletter published Sunday, Gorman cited financial results comments discussed on Saturday to support the delay in the launch, including company officials lowering their expectations for Mac computer revenue growth.
The launches, when they occur, are likely to include an update to the 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro, based on the M2 processor. It also includes an updated Mac mini with an M2 chip and drastic external changes.
Gorman claims that Apple has also ramped up its own internal testing, including the M2 Pro and M2 Max chipsets. It is clear that the M2 Max chip will increase the number of CPU cores from 10 to 12 cores, with the graphics cores upgraded to a maximum of 38 cores.
